Phoenix tomorrow!

entertainment, me No Comments »

Tomorrow, I’m leaving on a Jet Plane for Phoenix, Arzona.  I’ll be hanging out with some friends from Consumating.  This will include my friend Dave who I’ve known since high school.

On Saturday, we will be going to the Arizona Renaissance Festival, and then we’ll be brunching at Lolo’s Chicken and Waffles on Sunday.  Then it’s back to the ol’ grindstone.

This begins what I will now call Jay’s Year of Travel.

Upcoming Trips

I will definitely be travelling quite a bit over the next few months.

  • On Feb 29, I will be flying to Phoenix, Arizona for the weekend. This is a ConsuMeet (where a bunch of people from Consumating get together). This particular meet is called FatSumeet, where a bunch of us fatties get together and get our eat on. (God, did I just type that?) On Saturday, May 1, we will be going to the Arizona Renaissance Fair. Then on Sunday, May 2, we’ll be brunching at Lolo’s Chicken and Waffles. After that, it’s a flight back to Boise.
  • On May 9, I will be flying to Las Vegas for the Skank-Ass Ho Down II (Electric Boogaloo) Consumeet. This will probably be filled with debauchery and fun.
  • Thirdly, in July I will be going to New York for 2 weeks. This trip with be a combined family vacation (with my parents, my brother and my sister and her family) and Consumeet where I’ll be hanging out with some of my friends back there. Apparently we’ll be spending a week at a cabin in the mountains. It’ll be interesting to see what the woods are like back there, and how they differ from the woods here. The second week, we’ll just be staying at my sister’s place and I’ll get to see more of the city.

I’m really excited for this travelling. I don’t get many chances to travel, and it’ll be nice to get out and see more of the world.

Weekend stuff…

So, today, Jonathan came over. He’s moving to Portland, Oregon next week. So, we played some card games and talked. Patrick was also supposed to stop by, but he never did.

He did call to invite us to go see 30 Days of Night but not until 10 PM. The others didn’t want to go, but I really wanted to see that movie. So, I met Patrick and his brother-in-law at the Majestic Theater in Meridian. The movie was pretty good.

So, I think I’m starting to get sick. I’ve kinda started to feel like I’m getting a sore throat/cough coming on. So, when driving home from the movie, I stopped at Wal-Mart and bought some Zicam. We’ll see how well it does at making colds go away quicker.

Anyway…going to bed soon. Enjoy.

Krush Groove

Krush GrooveThis weekend, Apollo came to Idaho to celebrate his grandma’s birthday. We were planning on hanging out, so I told him I’d drive over to his grandma’s house in Payette and give him a ride to the airport so he could fly back home.

When I talked to him on Friday, he told me that he had a gift for me to make me say “Damn!” When I got there today, he gave me a bag from Rasputin Records. In it was the DVD of Krush Groove. When I pulled the DVD out of the bag, I did, indeed, say “Damn!”
If you’ve never seen this movie, here is a quick summary. Krush Groove stars Run DMC, the Fat Boys, Kurtis Blow and Sheila E. It also has New Edition, L.L. Cool J and is the first film performance by Blair Underwood. (He’d been on an episode of Knight Rider and the Cosby Show previous to this movie. Thanks IMDB.)

The story revolves around a small independant record company that has a few up and coming stars. Greed and personality clashes in the group threaten to ruin the whole thing. This is a fun movie from the 80’s when rap was fun and sometimes silly.

One of the greatest parts of this movie is when Krush Groove records is holding auditions. In comes LL Cool J, then a fairly unknown artist. The Krush Groove crew say “Sorry…auditions are over. Come back next week!” LL shouts “Box!” and his homeboy starts the giant boombox he’s carrying. Then LL proceeds to kick the first verse of I Can’t Live Without My Radio. That short scene pretty much stole the show.

This is a fun movie and it is such a nostalgia thing for me. Good lookin’ out, Apollo. Now they just need to get Tougher than Leather on DVD.

Podcast Review: Textra

While I’m at work, I like to listen to/watch podcasts. The majority of the ones I watch are tech news podcasts, such as T.W.I.T. and GeekBrief.TV. I enjoy getting the different perspectives on what’s going on in technology.

The latest one I’ve found is TeXtra, hosted by Natali Del Conte. Like GeekBrief.TV, TeXtra is on the PodShow Network. TeXtra is a technology news podcast with some culture and humor thrown into the mix. It is recorded on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

The show mixes a professional look and feel of a quality television program with the accessability of a podcast. Natali, being an established tech journalist, does a great job in presenting tech news. She is knowledgable, funny and cute. She sometimes seems a little nervous on camera still, however. I’m sure that will improve as she does more shows.

I would recommend this podcast to anyone interested in finding out what’s going on in the world of technology. I enjoy it and will continue watching.

Yes. You heard that correctly.

We got a surprise during our D&D game this weekend, as our friends Jonathan and Megan brought this tasty head of Cthulhu made out of Rice Crispy Treats. The eyes are made out of Gummy Life Savers and the tentacles are Sour Apple Ropes.

Oh, and in case you are interested, Cthulhu was delicious. (Just watch out for the sanity loss.)

Thanks for brightening our day, Jonathan and Megan. You guys are kooky but fun to have around.

See all three pics of him here.
